Whore of Babylon - Digital Rendering

This project was conceived when I attempted to make generative forms using a python script in connection with CAD to make a projected landscape form.

The idea behind it is the idea of life being and acting in a cyclical form: like the old adage of 'what goes around comes around. In my formative education, this concept was simply understood as Karma, meaning in its original Sanskrit translation as 'Act' which in its derivative definition can be explained as the autonomous rituals we do in our lives and how they play a role in the cosmic ritual law. This prior knowledge laid dormant somewhere in my subconscious until I was reading 'Symbols of Transformation' by Carl Yung and I read about his views on Karma (although he was against the word in itself but supported the exploration of the concept) and found it interesting how he portrayed life as a testament to how reoccurrence being a reality. Making several dozens of different projections, I picked the one I felt suited the intent of what I was trying to portray purely by instinct. This plane would serve as a canvas for myself and an artificial intelligence script I had sourced to collaborate on.

For 'Babylon the great' I was trying to illustrate how planes are created via CAD using a colour mix of Scarlet and purple, I simply visualised the landscape in its glorious highland area with throughs and peaks. This led to a fairly straightforward understanding of the CAD landscape with the only rule being followed being that every square peg starting outside the circle would correlate to the one inside the circle. For 'Chaos'; I took the same CAD projection but this time used an image recognising python script that I had sourced to denote which parts of the image should be filled with black; leaving all others to be filled in white. The structure it followed was fairly simple yet produced a magnificent mess: if a node or a box is to be coloured black then the adjacent node would be white with diagonal nodes being in the corresponding colour, exactly like a checkered pattern. I then followed the script's instructions (although imperfect at times) and filled in all the boxes.

The rings around the paintings are intended to tell a parallel but a more complete story in themselves told in colour, the story of Babylon the great being of creation and the story of chaos being of life and death.
